If you want to be in a busy bar with extraordinary live music to spend your night out or just drink till you fall over you’ll find yourself in good company in insomnia. It is one of the busiest and best venues in Lan Kwai Fong for an out and out crazy night. With their excellent resident bands belting out covers like they are paid per decibel you’ll be squeezing onto the gyrating floor before you can say “vodka Red Bull”.

If it is conversation you are after then you’d be better off sticking to the front bar area which opens out onto the street and gives you a great view of the endless human traffic… or the queue of people impatiently waiting for you to leave. But you don’t have to leave, this bar is open 24 hours a day.

During the day the atmosphere is less testosterone-tastic, more a subdued place to hide away. This bar is a calm place to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch or afternoon tea. It may seem like a strange place to eat but the food is good and the prices are reasonable and you’ll find that for once you can actually see the sandstone décor and appreciate how big this bar actually is.

Breakfast is served for early worms or the hungovers of the night before and provides a good selection for between HK$35 – 85. Pancakes, omelettes, bagels, croissants, sandwiches or the All Day Breakfast are on the menu and served from 8am onwards.

The main menu covers pub grub like fish and chips, chops, steaks, bangers beans and mash, baked potatoes and beef stew for around HK$70. For Brits the bangers beans and mash are a big hit because the bangers are Walls! Yup, that’s right. If you are looking for that quintessential British banger then come to insomnia. There’s also soup, salads and sandwiches. If you are feeling peckish in the middle of the afternoon come in for a coffee for just HK$16. The snack menu runs till close with your typical chicken wings, nachos, chips, spring rolls, satays and mini pizzas for HK$50 – 65.
